We offer ILL at no charge to UW students and employees. The cost for borrowing materials, as well as shipping, is paid for by the Library. Interlibrary Loan allows you to pick up materials at the circulation desks located in Coe Library (corner of 13th and Ivinson), Brinkerhoff Geology Library (S.H. Knight Geology Building) and Learning Resource Center (LRC; second floor of Education Building).
Does Interlibrary Loan mean I never have to come to the Libraries for materials?
There are times when you will still have to or may prefer to come get materials at one of our libraries.
- Materials in closed collections, such as Reference, Hebard, Herbarium, or American Heritage Center, or materials that require specialized equipment to use must be used where the material is located.
- It is often faster to look items up in the Libraries' catalog and retrieve the material yourself.
- Library users often like to browse library collections for new books or recent issues of journals.
What is Interlibrary Loan's relationship to Prospector?
Prospector and Interlibrary Loan are separate systems. Prospector covers books and media from Colorado Libraries. Interlibrary Loan covers books, media, journal articles and other formats from UW and all other libraries.
